Choosing the right way to learn a language is very important and can determine the level of your success. A lot of people struggle for years trying to learn a new language because they don’t know where to start and what they should do. Sometimes one can spend thousands on courses and different textbooks and at the end still not be able to speak and write properly. Adults learn in a different way than children and I believe that in fact adults tend to learn a lot faster than children if they have the right guidance and strategy.
Why Online Learning is More Effective for Adults
My experience as an English teacher and a university professor shows that learning online by Skype can be surprisingly effective for adults. There is nothing wrong with taking an English language course at a school with a group of students. However, this type of learning is extremely time-consuming and expensive, and what’s even more important it is never devoted to YOU and YOUR NEEDS. The teacher follows a pre-established program, there are 10 more students learning with you, and the teacher would never pay attention to your needs, and/or focus on your mistakes. He/she would just follow the program. This results in you loosing time and money. Moreover, this approach is slowing down the learning process. Then, you will have to enroll in the next level course, again spend a couple of months in order to move on… etc. The result: you lose time, you lose money, you feel insecure of what you’ve learned.
While this way of learning might work for children because it keeps them occupied, it is a waste of time for adults whose needs are to learn fast and move on with their lives.
Learning by Skype allows you to take a lesson at home (when you have time and feel comfortable). You don’t have to take a bus or drive to the place where you are supposed to have the lesson so you’re saving time.
